Around 18 months, children are gently eased into our toddler classroom. The exact age of this transition is different for every child; we let each child’s unique developmental process guide their timing. Children become part of their peer community through “Circle time,” reading in small groups, group activities and eating meals together.

Our toddler classroom has differentiated play areas which include soft blocks, a pretend kitchen, story area, and a sand table. Toddlers build vocabulary as they are introduced to the world around them - and they can see so much of their world from our classroom windows! They take walks to visit older children and siblings in other classrooms, sing with our music teacher while she plays the guitar, take trips to the Ossining Post Office and Fire Station, and engage in a myriad of arts and crafts projects. For those showing signs of readiness, teacher-caregivers work with the children on potty learning, but always at the child’s pace.
